BMS Consulting have been appointed by the hospital trust to oversee the upgrade of the existing Trend BMS system installed at the Wirral site for the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.

This is a challenging commission as there are no ‘as-fitted’ records for the existing BMS system and mechanical systems. We therefore needed to undertake a comprehensive site survey of both systems to inform both an asset and condition survey.

Elements of the BMS and building services installation date back to the original build which made the survey and report writing process particularly difficult as department references have changed many times during the life of the facility.

Some parts of the facility have been mothballed, awaiting a comprehensive refurbishment. Significant elements of the BMS and building services installation had not been maintained for some time, all of which added to the challenge of producing a brief for a specialist BMS contractor.

We elected in this instance to take a ‘hands on’ approach to ensure efficient delivery of the upgrade programme, modifying the 963 BMS head-end to reflect the ‘as-fitted’ status of the facility with correct department references used.

This then allowed the BMS Specialist Contractor to produce a new IQ Vision head-end system, based on the corrected 963 system.
